The purchase of a used Kubota backhoe, tractor or excavator can be an excellent investment in your business.  They are good machines with a substantial network of dealers across the country that can provide you with parts and servicing.  Something that you will need to consider when you buy something from the Kubota lineup is how to maintain used Kubota equipment and how you are going to do it.

You might want to undertake a number of the maintenance tasks yourself.  The main advantage of this is the lower cost.  If you can maintain used Kubota equipment on your own it can also be a lot faster than bringing it in to a dealership as well.  You will have to weigh the advantages against the potential problems of trying to maintain used Kubota equipment yourself.  If you have trouble, you can end up spending even more time on it than you would if you took it to a dealership.  You have to also take into account that you are going to have to buy manuals and user guides if you don’t already have them, and you may have to spend money on tools.  If you have a number of Kubota machines, this may prove to be very worthwhile.

There are many dealerships with service depots around that can maintain used Kubota machines for you.  The advantages of taking them to the dealership include the fact that your equipment will be serviced by trained mechanics and they will take care of the headaches of finding parts.  You will also have the warranty from the dealership for the work so if there is any problem you can just go back to them.  Getting the right repair done the first time is often less expensive than making the same repair twice.  You can also reduce the potential damage to the machine if you do the repair incorrectly.

The best plan is probably to split the duties between yourself and the dealership.  You can probably maintain used Kubota equipment yourself when it comes to fluid replacement or lubrication.  If the repair is something small like a water pump or some brake work this might be the right thing to try yourself, but when it comes to serious engine repair, the responsibility to maintain used Kubota equipment is probably best left to trained mechanics.
